It is with great sadness that I have to report on the death of Hillary Morris who left this life on Friday 17 January 2020. Hillary joined Sash as National Director in February 1997 and worked in our Long Street office until June 2002 when she retired. Hillary had travelled extensively and was highly accomplished in the management and mentoring of people.
She came to Sash in the years after we ceased being a “movement” and became a professional organization putting staff and Advice Offices on track with our new role. It was a difficult time but Hillary’s dedication, ability and sense of humour guided us through those years and made sure we remained an organisation with serious and meaningful input to contribute to our changing world.
In my position in finance with Sash I was fortunate to work with Hillary for many years. She was inspirational, always ready to listen and give sound advice with a balanced approach to any problem and always “up-beat”. For Hillary the glass was always more than half full. In the last few years Hillary had many challenging health problems which she faced with strength and fortitude. There was never a complaint or a feeling of being sorry for herself.
It is this strength and joy of living I will always remember about Hillary and I am so pleased to have had the opportunity to work with her and to be her friend. I am sure all who knew her in the Black Sash feel fortunate to have known and worked with Hillary and to have gained from her spirit, knowledge and ability. She was a loving friend.
Hambe khale dear Hillary you are sorely missed by all who knew you.
